Share Your Expertise

Share Your Expertise is a series of student-led workshops initiated by HSGSA (2024-2025) for the first time at the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba. This workshop series is designed to elevate the academic and professional development of graduate students. Recognizing the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of modern scientific inquiry, this transformative initiative not only disseminates cutting-edge knowledge but also fosters a collaborative and inclusive learning environment for graduate students. The initiative covers a broad spectrum of advanced topics, including data science & analytics, computational biology, molecular biology techniques, and imaging & microscopy. By inviting PhD and MSc students who possess substantial expertise in these fields, this platform provides an invaluable opportunity for participants to showcase their knowledge, exchange ideas, gain recognition, and enhance their professional profiles.

Session Details:

Date: September 24 (Tuesday)

Time: 1.00-2.00 PM

Platform: Online (Zoom)

Topic of the Session:

“An overview and introduction to scientific reporting with Quarto”

Details of the Session:

This session will cover instructions on how to set up a Quarto project in RStudio and brief working examples of each Quarto output embedded in the presentation itself. The presentation would also briefly cover the topics of transparency and reproducibility in scientific reporting, focusing mainly on the multifaceted use of Quarto. Students, PIs, and research assistants can create engaging documents, presentations, lab websites, manuscripts, and data dashboards that integrate their analyses and results into their narratives without having to flip between windows to move their plots from the IDE to the document. By integrating one’s source code for plots and figures into the report itself, the student would be able to practice transparency and reproducibility, qualities valued by their scientific audience.

This is a unique opportunity for the students of RFHS to benefit greatly from streamlining their scientific reporting with Quarto! Please register for the event through filling out this form. If you have any questions about this workshop, please contact the VP Academic (vpacademic@hsgsa.org).
