Registration Information

The Health Sciences Graduate Student Association (HSGSA) is excited to host your social events during the 31st Annual CSHRF. As always we have many events taking place throughout CSHRF!

Deposits

OFF-CAMPUS events require a $5 deposit to secure your registration. This deposit is refundable only upon attendance at the event.  If you pay your deposit and fail to attend, you forfeit your deposit.

How to Register

You must do the following to COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION FOR AN EVENT

    1. Register for a ticket on eventbrite (this ticket is categorized as free because we do not accept payment through eventbrite). But a deposit is still required, which we accept through PayPal (see “HOW WE ACCEPT DEPOSITS” section)
    2. If you registered for an off-campus event, pay your deposits (PayPal to vpmarketingevents@hsgsa.org) before Friday, May 18 at 5:00 PM CST
    3. If you registered for a National Microbiology Lab (NML) tour and NOT a Canadian Citizen, submit a copy of your PASSPORT to vpmarketingevents@hsgsa.org within 48 hours of registering.

How We Accept Deposits

To keep costs down we do not accept payment via Eventbrite.  We only accept payments through PayPal.  Send money to vpmarketingevents@hsgsa.org. Setting up a PayPal account is easy-peasy, click here to set it up and start making payments. If you have problems making this payment via PayPal, contact Crystal.

About the Events

Luncheons

Lunch tickets will be provided with your badge registration.  Lunch tickets are required to receive your lunch. Dietary restrictions: when registering for the lunches/banquet you should be prompted to indicate your dietary restrictions.  If you are not prompted email your dietary restrictions to vpmarketingevents@hsgsa.org.

Note: For the Gairdner Lunch you must register for the Gairdner symposium and you will automatically be registered for the lunch.

Visit to the Canadian Museum of Human Rights & The Forks

$5 DEPOSIT

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum in Winnipeg located adjacent to The Forkswhich explores the subject of human rights.  The Forks is a historic site located in Downtown Winnipeg, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers converge.  It was an early meeting site for Aboriginal peoples and European fur traders and settlers.  Now it is a great  tourist attraction with many things to see and do.

  • 1.25 hour tour of the CMHR
  • Comes with $5 voucher towards the Forks for food or drinks
  • Group transportation included

Student Banquet

$5 DEPOSIT

Our semi-formal Student Banquet will be held at the Qualico Centre at Assiniboine Park.  Come enjoy a sit-down dinner and evening of dancing.

Tours

IMPORTANT:  Some tours overlap with other tours and symposium events including the poster competition.  Please ensure you check your CSHRF Agenda, judging time, and other tour options before registering for a tour and making your deposit. 

  • National Microbiology Lab (NML):  $5 DEPOSIT The NML houses one of the only containment level 4 facilities in the world, and was an integral part of containing the recent ebola outbreak. Bring your walking shoes; you will be walking to and from NML.There are two (2) separate tour dates available: Monday, June 11 for local students (University of Manitoba) and Wednesday, June 13 for national students. Please ensure you are registered for the correct tickets.
  • Hermetic Code Tour at the Legislature:  $5 DEPOSIT  Come learn the secrets hidden within our legislative building from the renound Dr. Frank Albo. Group transportation included.
  • The Royal Canadian Mint$5 DEPOSIT The Mint produces some of the world’s most collectible coins which are crafted from original designs by Canadian artists.  Visit the Mint shop their Boutique (located only in Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Vancouver) and to experience the interactive museum and guided tour. Group transportation included.
  • Journey to Churchill at the Winnipeg Zoo: $5 DEPOSIT Enjoy the award-winning Journey to Churchill exhibit that is home to polar bears, muskoxen, Arctic fox, wolves and other northern species. It is the most comprehensive northern species exhibit of its kind in the world.  Visitors experience a variety of naturalistic landscapes and animal viewing areas. Group transportation included.
  • Oak Hammock Marsh Nature Experience: $5 DEPOSIT Escape to the peaceful wilderness of Oak Hammock Marsh. Located only 20 kilometers North of Winnipeg.  Enjoy a gentle glide through the marsh on passenger voyageur-style canoes.  As you provide the paddle power, get a duck’s eye view of the amazing diversity of wildlife that call Oak Hammock Marsh home.  Dress for the weather (layers that can be worn if it gets cold or removed if it gets warm).  The canoe ride goes on whether rain or shine, unless there is lightening and thunder.  Group transportation included.
